Overview

This guide walks you through connecting Omnitec hotel locks to Seam. The integration requires an Omnitec Rent&Pass Gateway, which provides the Wi-Fi connectivity that enables real-time communication between Seam and your Omnitec locks.
Seam only supports Omnitec locks that are online through a gateway. Offline-only Omnitec locks (without a gateway connection) are not supported.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:
  • Omnitec electronic hotel locks installed at the property
  • An Omnitec Rent&Pass Gateway — this provides the Wi-Fi bridge between your locks and Seam
  • A Wi-Fi network accessible to the gateway
  • Your Omnitec account credentials (email and password)
  • A Seam workspace with API access

Step 1: Install and Configure the Gateway

  1. Install the Omnitec Rent&Pass Gateway at the property and connect it to the Wi-Fi network.
  2. Pair your Omnitec locks with the gateway following Omnitec’s pairing instructions. Each lock must be online and reachable through the gateway for remote operations.
  3. Verify that all locks appear as connected in the Omnitec Rent&Pass management interface.

Step 2: Connect to Seam

  1. In the Seam Console, create a Connect Webview with omnitec in the accepted_providers list.
  2. Open the Connect Webview and log in with your Omnitec account credentials.
  3. Once authorized, your online Omnitec locks appear as devices in your Seam workspace.
See the sandbox credentials page for test values to use during development.

Step 3: Verify the Connection

Once connected, verify that your devices appear correctly:
  • Devices — your online Omnitec locks should appear in the Seam Console under Devices
  • Status — each lock should show as online/connected
  • Capabilities — locks should report can_remotely_lock, can_remotely_unlock, and can_program_online_access_codes
You can also verify programmatically using the Seam API. See the Getting Started guide for code examples.

Troubleshooting

Locks not appearing after authorization

Ensure the Rent&Pass Gateway is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi. Only locks that are online through the gateway are visible to Seam.

Lock shows as offline

Check that the lock is within range of the gateway and that the gateway’s Wi-Fi connection is active. Re-pair the lock with the gateway if necessary.

Gateway connection issues

Verify that the gateway’s Wi-Fi network has internet access. The gateway needs to reach Omnitec’s cloud servers to relay commands from Seam.
